Kenyan volleyball teams gear up for African Championship in Uganda

Kenya will send four teams to the championship that will serve off from mid February

The African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) zone V championship is set to open its doors for yet another exciting adventure on February 16 to 22, 2025, in Uganda with Kenya taking five teams to the competition.

Kenya will field three women clubs and two men clubs at the CAVB Zone V championships. The Kenyan delegation features KCB, defending champions Kenya Pipeline, both the men's and women's teams from Kenya Prisons, and the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) men`s team.

Kenya pipeline will be out to defend their championship while KPA and Kenya Prison will try and see if they can take home the title from Rwanda Police.

The hosts will field eight teams, four men teams; Sport-s, Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC), Nomestars and Uganda Christian University (UCU): four women`s teams Sport-s, Nkumba, Ndejje and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

CAVB has seven Zones namely, Zone I hosted in Algeria and has four nations, Algeria (host), State of Libya, Morocco and Tunisia. Zone II with eight nations, Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal (host) and Sierra Leone.

Zone III with 8 nations Benin (host), Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Niger and Togo; Zone IV 8 nations Central African Rep, Congo Brazzaville, Chad, Cameroon (host), Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Sao Tome and Principe;

Zone V has the most nations (12) Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda (host) and Burundi.

Zone VI; 10 nations Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique (host), Namibia, South Africa, Eswatini, Zambia and Zimbabwe; Zone VII 4 nations Comoros (host), Madagascar, Mauritius and Seychelles.

With exciting matches on the horizon the championship will foster regional unity and highlight the outstanding talent within Zone V.
